Features and Behaviors

FEATURES
The pine siskin is about five inches long (bill tip to tail tip in preserved specimen). Its feathers are dark brown with streaks. Its bill is pointed, and its tail is notched. There is usually some yellow coloration in the wing feathers and at the base of the tail.

BEHAVIORS
The pine siskin frequents conifers, woodlands, weedy areas and urban areas and is often seen at bird feeders in winter. It is a common migrant and winter resident as well as a rare summer resident in the state.
