Features and Behaviors

FEATURES
Also known as the parrot waxcap, this mushroom is green when young changing to yellow or yellow-tan with age. It is slimy. Its cap is one-tenth to one inch in diameter. The cap expands to nearly flat as the fruiting body matures. The stem is four-tenths to one and one-half inches tall and green to yellow-green in coloration. The gills are green to start with but change to yellow. The spore print is white.

BEHAVIORS
Fruiting bodies appear from late spring through fall. They can be found in hardwood and coniferous forests, often growing in mosses.
