Project Title: Assessing Wellness in Wildlife Herptile Species in Greatest Need of Conservation

Community and/or Species Focus: Eastern box turtle, Silver salamander, Ornate box turtle

Goals/Objectives:
  1. Assess the health of the 3 identified species through the generation of baseline hematology and disease prevalence data
  2. Use the health monitoring data to establish criteria that can be integrated into future conservation assessments
Achievements:
  1. ​Location of at least one population of the 3 SGCN for development of a health assessment protocol
  2. Ranavirus prevalence determined for each species, as well as herpesvirus 1 and Mycoplasma for turtle species and Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis and B. salamandrivorans for the salamander species
  3. A protocol for assessing wellness in representative herptile SGCN
