Project Title: Habitat Conservation Initiative for the Illinois Chorus Frog (Pseudacris streckeri illinoensis): Phase I

Community and/or Species Focus:

 Illinois chorus frog

Goals/Objectives:
  1. Control woody and exotic vegetation and establish native grasses and forbs at Clear Creek Wetland State Natural Area
  2. Rehabilitate a small, fishless pond and create another small pond at Sand Ridge State Forest
  3. Repair a well pump at Sand Ridge State Forest to restore water management capabilities in wetlands
  4. Enhance and protect converted wetlands on private lands in Mason County
  5. Monitor Illinois chorus frog presence at improved and unimproved sites in Mason and Menard Counties
Achievements:
  1. ​Ensured the future of the Illinois chorus frog through long-term protection of a portion of critical habitats
  2. Complexes of suitable habitat on public lands
  3. Improved habitat for the target species will benefit other important species
  4. Protection of key habitats through easements or acquisition
