Project Title: Southern Illinois Prescribed Fire Resources for Natural Area
Community and/or Species Focus: Woodlands, Prairies
Goals/Objectives:
- Train and distribute Type 2 firefighters to assist in prescribed burns
- Provide annual prescribed fire training to assure safe and effective fire management
- Use prescribed burns to restore and maintain ecological processes
- Provide opportunities for citizens to be trained for burns
Achievements:
- Recruitment was ongoing throughout the project, with a final total of over 60 firefighters
- The Shawnee RC&D developed a webpage to guide online training
- Implemented prescribed burns on over 9,000 acres
- The webpage was developed in addition to program registration and reimbursement forms
