Project Title: Southern Illinois Prescribed Fire Resources for Natural Area

Community and/or Species Focus: Woodlands, Prairies

Goals/Objectives:
  1. Train and distribute Type 2 firefighters to assist in prescribed burns
  2. Provide annual prescribed fire training to assure safe and effective fire management
  3. Use prescribed burns to restore and maintain ecological processes
  4. Provide opportunities for citizens to be trained for burns
Achievements:
  1. ​Recruitment was ongoing throughout the project, with a final total of over 60 firefighters
  2. The Shawnee RC&D developed a webpage to guide online training
  3. Implemented prescribed burns on over 9,000 acres
  4. The webpage was developed in addition to program registration and reimbursement forms
