Project Title: Survey for the Pathogen, Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis, in Illinois

Community and/or Species Focus:

 Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd)

Goals/Objectives:
  1. Survey protected areas of Illinois for presence of Bd
  2. Survey for Bd in museum specimens
  3. Analyze field samples
Achievements:
  1. ​Sampled over 300 swabs per site in 2008 and 100 per site in 2009 in both widespread and special interest amphibian species
  2. From 2008-2009 museum specimen from 1950-1989 were sampled; further museum sampling in 2010 will examine specimens from 1990
  3. Preliminary results in 2008 indicate a 26.8% prevalence of Bd at the Midewin site, 54.1% prevalence in Kickapoo, and 0% prevalence​ in the Cache River Basin
