Project T-125-R1
Project Title: Demography of Two Salamander Species in Conservation Need
Community and/or Species Focus: Jefferson Salamander and Silvery Salamander
Goals/Objectives:
- Collect and analyze demographic data for the Jefferson Salamander at two breeding wetlands in the Wabash River Conservation Opportunity Area
- Determine if hybridization is still occurring at the original Silvery Salamander population and at what levels, if any, it is still occurring at the newly discovered sites
- Collect and analyze demographic data for the Silvery Salamander at two breeding wetlands in the Vermillion River Conservation Opportunity Area
Achievements:
- Demographic assessment of population viability parameters at two breeding wetlands for the Jefferson Salamander
- Incorporate demographic information into a draft conservation plan for the Jefferson Salamander
- Determine hybridization rates of Silvery Salamander at a subset of populations using genetic markers
- Demographic assessment of population viability parameters at two breeding wetlands for the Silvery Salamander
- Incorporate demographic information into a draft conservation plan for the Silvery Salamander
