Public Programs

Volo Bog State Natural Area offers year-round programs for individuals and groups. A weekly update of public programs is emailed by request - contact us at dnr.volobog@illinois.gov and tell us your name and phone number too. See our Activities page for examples of the many programs throughout the year.

Guided one-hour tours of Volo Bog are held most Saturdays and Sundays at 11 am & 1 pm for individuals, families, and small groups. Groups of 10 or more can make arrangements for a private group tour.

For Schools & Youth Groups

Groups of 10 or more people must register in advance. All registration is done by phone ONLY - call 815-344-1294.

Seventeen different youth programs are offered for groups of 10 or more students. Adults count in the 10, but children younger than the minimum age do not. School classes, youth groups, home school families, or simply a group of friends can arrange for a program. Many of the youth programs can be adapted to adult groups as well.

Our guided bog tours are adapted to a variety of grade levels, beginning with second grade. Each level has its own specific, age-appropriate Activity Guide developed to help students prepare for their trip in school, BEFORE the arrive.

Our Waste-Not Lunch Challenge is encouraged for all students visiting and especially those who will be eating inside.
